Understanding Post-COVID Conditions & CHP Eligibility

Understanding Post-COVID Conditions & CHP Eligibility

Has your health changed since COVID-19?

Have you experienced new or worsening health problems following a COVID-19 infection? Has a health condition you already had become more difficult to manage since having COVID-19 and is it now affecting your ability to work?

The Career Horizons Project (CHP) at Mississippi State University may be able to help.

CHP provides free employment services to individuals with disabilities accompanied by or resulting from Post-COVID Conditions (PCC), also commonly referred to as Long COVID. Importantly, Post-COVID Conditions do not always look the same from person to person. Some individuals experience a collection of persistent symptoms, while others develop or experience worsening of a diagnosable health condition following COVID-19.

What types of conditions may be associated with Post-COVID Conditions?

Post-COVID Conditions may include new or worsening health conditions that develop following a SARS-CoV-2 infection. Depending on the individual, these may include conditions such as:

  • Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)
  • Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and other forms of dysautonomia
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Cardiovascular conditions
  • Pulmonary conditions

This list is not exhaustive. Other health conditions or persistent symptoms may also be associated with Post-COVID Conditions.

Not sure if your condition qualifies?

You don't have to figure it out on your own. If you have experienced a change in your health following COVID-19 and that change is affecting your ability to work, we encourage you to learn more about the Career Horizons Project below and submit a referral.

How can the Career Horizons Project help?

The Career Horizons Project at Mississippi State University provides free Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) placement and retention services to eligible participants. Individuals who are  eligible and choose to participate will be assigned a CHP Vocational Counselor who will work with them over an 8-month period providing services to help them keep their current employment or assist them with securing new employment.

Who is eligible to receive free employment services through the Career Horizons Project?

CHP currently serves individuals who:

  • have a disability accompanied by or resulting from Post-COVID Conditions / Long COVID,
  • are a Mississippi resident or a resident of a neighboring state living along the Mississippi border
  • are between the ages of 16 and 70,
  • have an interest in working,
  • are not participating in another Disability Innovation Fund project.
